Pet Bereavement videos

The loss of a pet can be one of life's toughest moments; the pain can be long-lived. I make these videos to help the grieving process, whilst creating a celebration for the future - a tribute to the animals that make our lives complete.

It was the making of a video that helped me through the summer of 2025, following the euthanasia of a dog I felt profoundly connected with. His name was Charley and his video is below. I know they have helped other people too.

The videos are built around people's photos; the process of choosing them itself involves a certain amount of catharsis and re-discovery. Monty's guardian was stunned by forgotten images she found on various devices.

"the most beautiful tribute... a thoughtful and poignant video. A little piece of magic."

I aim to make the photos look as good as possible, but sympathetically; the animal is always the focus. I know the integrity of images is vital, so use basic crops, adjustments and add variety using black and white filters for example.

It doesn't matter if you only have limited numbers of photos or poor images. What you have is as important as any other collection. Just 10 images of Moomoo exist in the world, mostly blurry, but these memories are as evocative as any other.

Milly left us in 2010, photos of her a bit faded or out of focus, but creating her video was joyful; from those grainy images came an emotional re-kindling of our relationship. She was my first dog. I don't think it's ever too late to remember them.

The flow of images is timed to the accompanying music. I have created the various tracks so you are free to post your video anywhere. Most are thoughtful in mood, but Marigold's video is different, it's more upbeat and playful than others.

With Charley on Dartmoor.

The videos are made by Dryden Smith near Tavistock, Devon. I want each video to truly celebrate the animal, so each and every photo is worked individually; it records a moment of great personal importance.

A price of £125 is currently recommended but I can offer a discount if your budget will not stretch to that.

I have a long history of making in many guises, including a hand-painted wooden mirror business based on Exmoor, wooden wall-hangings, paintings, animations and more, all of which are demonstrated here.
